I honestly can’t recommend this clinic highly enough. From the moment I arrived, Dr Cinzia Sammartino and her assistant, Brani, made me feel completely at ease. They were both incredibly kind, professional and compassionate, and their calm, caring approach made the whole experience so much easier than I’d expected. The procedure was much quicker and easier than I’d imagined, and everything was explained clearly throughout. What stood out most was the genuine care and kindness I received. I actually left feeling quite emotional afterwards because I felt so well looked after. Thank you, Dr Cinzia Sammartino and Brani, for your warmth, professionalism and outstanding care. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ptosis correction and upper blepharoplasty?
Ptosis correction lifts an upper eyelid that sits lower than normal because the eyelid-lifting muscle or tendon is weak or stretched. Upper blepharoplasty removes excess eyelid skin and may also address bulging fat. Some patients have both conditions so our surgeon assesses eyelid position, muscle strength and excess skin before recommending treatment.
Can drooping eyelids affect vision?
Yes. A low eyelid or heavy upper eyelid skin can reduce the upper field of vision and make reading, driving or looking upwards more difficult. Some patients also raise the eyebrows to compensate which may cause forehead strain. We assess whether the concern is functional, cosmetic or a combination of both.
How do we assess persistent watery eyes?
Watery eyes may result from tear duct narrowing, eyelid malposition, irritation or poor tear drainage. Our assessment may include examination of the eyelids and tear openings followed by probing, syringing or irrigation where appropriate. Treatment depends on the location and severity of the drainage problem.
What is the difference between entropion and ectropion?
Entropion occurs when the eyelid turns inward and causes the lashes or skin to rub against the eye. Ectropion occurs when the eyelid turns outward and no longer sits against the eye correctly. Both conditions may cause watering, irritation, redness and damage to the eye surface when left untreated.
Does every eyelid lump need to be removed?
No. Some eyelid lumps can be monitored while others may require removal because they are growing, causing irritation, affecting eyelid function or have uncertain features. Depending on the clinical findings we may recommend excision, curettage, cryotherapy or biopsy.
What happens during an oculoplastic consultation?
Our consultation includes a review of symptoms, medical history, current medication and previous eye treatment. We may assess eyelid position, eyelid closure, tear drainage, the eye surface and surrounding facial structures. We then explain the diagnosis, suitable treatment options, expected benefits, possible risks and recovery.
Can upper and lower blepharoplasty be performed together?
Upper and lower eyelid surgery may be combined when both areas require treatment and the overall procedure remains clinically appropriate. We consider eye health, eyelid position, medical history and recovery requirements before recommending combined surgery.
